This week Year 6 have been working hard simplifying and comparing fractions – this can sometimes be an area that lots of people find tricky! Not this Year 6 though - Miss Clapp is really pleased with how everyone in the class has approached the work and the progress they have made! We’re onto adding and

subtracting fractions next week!

.

Year 6 have also continued reading The Silver Sword – a novel based during World War II. The children are in the process of writing some poems about a

particularly tragic part in the story – they have come up with some fantastic descriptive words and phrases and Miss Clapp can’t wait to read them!

This week in Year 6 we have been working on our UOI - What a disaster. We have been researching some of the most deadliest natural disasters in history and have also in maths been looking at the natural disasters that have happened so far in 2011.

.

We have collected, presented and analysed data and have found out that in

2011 there have been more earthquakes than any other disaster! We also found out that September had more disasters than any other month and that the continent most affected by natural

disasters so far in 2011 has been Asia.

.

Next week we are going to be putting together an explanation text about volcanoes and finding out how the strength of an earthquake is measured.
