Ladies' Hockey Central League: Blackpool & Wyre 1

away

In thick fog Rossall played against a very strong Blackpool and Wyre 2nd team. After trailing 2-0 at half time Rossall came out to chase the game and pulled the score back to 2-1 early in the second half through a fine strike by Harriet Anderson. Rossall were, however, unable to contain the very skillful Blackpool attack and conceded 2 more goals in quick succession. Despite Rossalls best efforts they could not break the Blackpool defence again. Finally giving in to the rapidly worsening fog the game was cut short.

Rossall found themselves two regular defenders down before the start of this game forcing a change in structure. Rossall struggled with this in the first half and looked uncomfortable. Blackpool and Wyre soon capitalised on this scoring 2 1st half goals. In the second half Rossall looked a lot stronger and composed and began to take control of the game leading to many good attacks. Rossall manged to keep the Blackpool at bay for much of the second half and were unlucky to concede again through an unfortunate own goal. Final score 3-0.

Laura Gillespie took 2 wickets for 9 runs and Jenna Birch and Hannah Jenkinson took 1 wicket each. rossall started well with Franziska Von Kuenburg retiring on 25 and Alice Jackson scoring 14, but a middle order batting collapse left it up to the final pair to chase the runs. Rossall fielded first against a well established Sedbergh side. Danielle Takeuchi took an early wicket reducing Sedbergh to 1 for 2. Jenna Birch then removed the next batsmen for 1 run. The impressive fielding continued as Hannah Jenkinson took a remarkable 4 for 9, and Franziska Von Kuenburg 2 for 14. With Sedbergh finishing on 81 for 8 after 25 overs, a win was still realistic. However, a quick collapse of the early order left the girls an uphill battle, top scorer was Franziska with 12 closely followed by Lucky with 11 and Jenna with 10. Rossall were all out for 60, falling short by 21 runs. A very impressive performance that the girls can be proud of in only their third year of playing cricket.
