Lent Term
This Week in Year 2
We have thrown ourselves into our unit of inquiry, Celebrate! Not only have we read about why Guy Fawkes wanted to blow up the Houses of Parliament and why we celebrate with fireworks, we have looked at how Halloween is celebrated in this country and in Mexico, now we are looking at how different groups of people celebrate weddings. We have watched some of the coverage of the recent Royal wedding as a traditional Christian wedding and talked about weddings the children have been to. If you have photographs or items from your weddings or any weddings you have attended as a family, we would love to share them in class. We will be looking at different religious weddings over the next few weeks, again, if you have any photographs or experiences you can share with us then we would love to hear about them.
.
In numeracy we have been looking at halves and quarters and will be moving onto the 2 times table and how this relates to dividing by 2.
Autumn Term
This Week in Year 2
To get our new unit of inquiry, Time Team, off to an exciting start we had a visit from Thomas Senior who brought some very interesting artefacts in to show us. He showed us old artefacts and then compared them to new ones. We looked at glass bottles, pewter takers, old irons, dipping fountain pens, old money, a yard stick, pocket watches and his penny farthing which he rode around the hall! If you have any items at home that we could look at that are real artefacts or reproductions then the children would be very interested in looking at them.

In the Infant School we have really enjoyed learning some new playtime games during Golden Time. We played The Farmer's in His Den, Ring a Ring of Roses, The Okey Cokey, Duck Duck Goose, Here We Go Round the Mulbury Bush and Follow My Leader. During lunch times we have been visited by some of the Junior children to help us play some nice games.

We have also been testing to see if the wolf really could blow down a house made of straw, sticks and bricks. We used Mrs Topping's hairdryer instead of finding a wolf. The Lego house was so strong it wasn't blown over even on the fastest setting! Suzanne talked to everyone about Vietnam and showed us some special clothes. We look forward to hearing about another country in 2 week’s time.
