Birds of Prey

On Sunday 1st May, Richard Cooper of Silverband Falconry came to Rossall with a stunning selection of owls, hawks and falcons. He gave us a fascinating insight into their world, and also the opportunity to handle and fly these beautiful birds.

.

The barn owl chicks were a big hit, but perhaps the most surprising bird on display was the rather large and disheveled-looking five-week old raven chick - many of the spectators mistook him for a much older veteran.

.

Despite the challenge of a Rossall-force wind, Richard expertly demonstrated various flying and hunting techniques, and some of the younger audience were clearly captivated by the experience.

.

The grand finale was the harris hawk sprinting through a tunnel of human legs for the reward of a tasty snack. All this under dazzling spring sunshine and cloudless blue skies.

Happy New Year

Chinese New Year

On Thursday 11th February the ISC held a Chinese New Year party to celebrate the Year of the Tiger.  A traditional chinese banquet was laid on by a local chinese restaurant.  Students and teachers enjoyed a feast of traditional dumplings, spare ribs, spicy beef, noodles and rice and many more chinese specialities. Delicious!

The ISC was decorated with red walls, the colour for luck in China.  This symbolises good luck to all for the forthcoming year. Chinese lanterns were hung across the rooms and the walls were covered with pictured of tigers.

The meal was followed by a traditional chinese dragon dance through the grounds of Rossall.  This was led by Mr Clinton Baker and all the students helped carry the dragon round the school.  This was a great spectacle!

Finally the students held a disco in the ISC hall and danced the evening away.
