Education Maintenance Allowance
If your child is considering staying on for Sixth Form, but financially there is a problem, it might be worth your while to consider applying for EMA.
If you qualify for EMA, the amount you get depends on your household income.
If your household income is:
- up to £20,817 per year you get £30 per week
- £20,818 - £25,521 per year you get £20 a week
- £25,522 - £30,810 per year you get £10 a week
- more than £30,810 per year no entitlement to EMA
These thresholds represent household income before tax, and relate to the tax year 2006-2007.
Bonus payments of up to £500
From time to time, you may also qualify for bonus payments. If your learning programme lasts over two years, these payments could be up worth up to £500.
