- The student’s first language
- English, French, German or Spanish as a second language
- A Humanities subject chosen from Economics, Geography, Business Management and Philosophy, History or Psychology
- A Science subject chosen from Chemistry, Biology, Physics or DT
- Mathematics
- Art and Music (Visual Arts), or a choice from the first four options
Students are also required to submit an Extended Essay of 4,000 words on a subject of their own choice, which is completed under the guidance of a supervisor. They must also complete ‘Creativity, Action, Service’ - which requires participation in sporting and creative activities whilst also engaging in a worthwhile community based activity. The Theory of Knowledge component is the foundation of the whole programme. It encourages critical thinking and assesses this through a formal essay and an oral presentation. The final Diploma is awarded on the basis of marks gained for coursework, and a final examination in each subject.

Group 4 IB Project:
As part of the IB criteria students take part in a 1 day practical session where they are given a theme and spend the day working as a team to design and carry out a particular practical exercise.
This year the theme was "time". The students had to design a time measuring device which would incorporate an aspect of Chemistry, Physics or Biology.
To determine the most effective experiment the students listened to a piece of music and were asked to submit the time.
In addition a presentation and poster were produced by each group.
Outcome
Students improve their ability to work as a team and to manipulate specialised equipment
