Old Girls'" Hockey Challenge

For the first time this year we had an “Old Girls” hockey match against the 1st XI to conclude the 1st XI’s pre-season training. It was fantastic to see so many old girls - who tried to lull us into a false sense of security by claiming they hadn’t played hockey since they left school – their skill and fitness certainly didn’t confirm this!!
.
With 12 players (after Dana Takeuchi kindly “volunteered” her services – debuting at the game of hockey) the Old Girls, comprising of four ex-school hockey captains, gave the young 1st XI a very tough match. Despite their youth , the 1st XI came out as 3 – 1 winners. We would like to make this a permanent fixture in the calendar, and those Old Girls who were unable to make it this year – put next year's date in your diary now – Sunday 31st August 2008.
.
My thanks to all the Old Girls who dusted off their sticks to play it really was a very enjoyable day and I look forward to seeing you all again next year!

Anne and Harry Are Real Diamonds

There have been many successful partnerships at Rossall over the years, but not many as successful as Anne and Harry Rowbotham!  The couple celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary on 7th February 2008.

.

Many of you will remember Harry, a skilled joiner and carpenter who joined Rossall Maintenance team in 1962 (and still comes into School on a couple of days a week to show the new boys how it's done!) and Anne, who came to work part time in 1968 and then was Postmistress and Tuck Shop Manager from 1973 until her retirement in 1986.

.

The Rowbothams have 3 children David, Nicholas and Stacey, and 2 grandchildren, Lucy (21) and Emma (18), who all attended a lunchtime celebration at the Hilton in Blackpool, together with 80 guests, including many Rossallian friends.
